Savages Row shirt

The colonial conquests often proved by portraits of Africans as savage warriors, circulated through drawings in magazines illustrating. After the Savages Row shirt colonies were established, images of brutal warriors gradually gave way to a new model of impulsive, childish Africans. Colonial patriarchs demanded that the subjects be in accordance with the bill. Social theorist Roland Barthes remarked: ‘The only truly reassuring image of a black person is that of the boy, the savage servant.’
